Every summer is bitter sweet. We love the warm temperatures, but hate what it does to our makeup. How many times have you started your day looking like a flawless goddess and by the day’s end, you look like a sweaty raccoon? Here are some tips to help keep your makeup from smearing and sweating off.

#1 – SAVE  TIME  AND  PRIME

The key to helping your makeup stay put all day, starts with what you apply underneath. Before you start your makeup, apply a good primer. What a primer does is smooth out the finish of your skin and matify it, making your makeup application glide on smoother. It’ll also prevent your makeup from streaking. Smashbox, has a fantastic primer called Photo Finish Foundation Primer (Light). It’s an oil free, 60% water-based primer, that absorbs oils and gives your skin a matte finish.

#2 – TO  LOOK  OUTTA  SIGHT,  KEEP  YOUR  FOUNDATION  LIGHT

In the summer heat, wear as little makeup as possible. The more you wear, the heavier it feels, making it feel like a mask. You’re going to sweat, so make your upkeep easy by wearing less. Try going with a tinted moisturizer or a BB Cream. Almost every makeup company has their own version. Those products are designed to have a sheer application, and go on like a second skin. Use a foundation brush for a more sheer application. Don’t be surprised if you have to go with a darker color than normal for summer. Most women regardless of their skin color, have to wear two colors, one for winter and one for summer.

#3 – GET  THAT  SWEAT,  WITH  POWDER  SET

If you make sure your foundation matches your skin exactly, you can set your makeup with a blot powder.  Blot powders are translucent powder and the beauty of them is, they’re a light weight powder made only to matify the skin. It’s a great alternative to using a regular foundation powder throughout the day for touch ups, that leaves your face feeling like you’re wearing a mask. MAC carries a great line of blot powders that come in 5 shades. One for everyone! I used their darkest blot powder color called, Deep Dark.

#4 – 3  IN  1  AND  YOU’RE  DONE

Another way to pare down your makeup for the summer months is to try a 3 in 1 (lipstick, blush and eyeshadow) all in one. Make sure to keep your application light and easy, with a quick sweep over the lids, the cheeks and lips. It’s light, it’s easy and it’s fast! The less makeup you apply, the less there is to sweat off. It’s perfect for the heat. Nars has a great 3 in 1 and the one I used here, is called Maui. It’s a nice neutral dusty rose, that works on many skin colors.

#5 – LOOK  FINER  IN  MARKER  LINER

By the end of a hot day, your eyeliner has picked up and relocated somewhere else on your face. To avoid your eyeliner from travelling, stay away from lining your eyes with a pencil liner. The coal ingredient in the pencil, when mixed with heat, becomes soft and smears. Use a marker liner. It goes on a wet stark line, but quickly dries. Once it’s dry it’s not going anywhere until you remove it. My favorite marker liner is called Eye Inked by Annabelle Cosmetics. It’s fine point allows for the best precision for a thin or thick line.

So don’t greet the summer with a fight…get it right and go light! Remember, you can look beautiful with a light natural application, and believe me, it’s easier to manage in the heat. If you just follow these easy tips, there’s no excuse to not look “HOT”, but in a good way…Lol!
